Ticks in Estonia: season, prevention and protection

Ticks are active during the warm season and can also occur in gardens and urban green areas.

When are ticks active?

Ticks are active from spring to autumn, with activity often peaking in April to June and again in late summer. They can become active whenever temperatures rise above approximately +5 °C.

How to reduce the risk

Use protective clothing and repellents, stay on clear paths and check people and pets after spending time outdoors.

  • Check the neck, ears, armpits and knee folds
  • Inspect pets after walks
  • Keep grass shorter near frequently used areas
  • Consider professional yard treatment in higher-risk locations
